Cray Rope

Crackpots has its own exclusive crayfishing rope.  Manufactured to our quality standards, and tested by us and a fleet of professional fishermen up & down the west coast over the past twenty plus years, our rag rope is built to last.  If you need help with rigging your pot, or need your float engraved we can help with that too.

Cut Lengths Cray Rope

For recreational cray fishers, we have pre-cut lengths of PP 11mm Cray Rope ready to go.  Choose from:

20m Lengths

  • Rope only
  • Rope with three leads lazy spliced into the rope
  • Rope with 4m lead core spliced in

25m Lengths

  • Rope only
  • Rope with three leads lazy spliced into the rope
  • Rope with 4m lead core spliced in

30m Lengths

  • Rope only
  • Rope with three leads lazy spliced into the rope
  • Rope with 4m lead core spliced in

We can also make up ropes cut to your length – so just let us know what you need, and we can help you out.

Lead Line Weights

We sell lead line weights that you can add to your rope. Weighing 100g each, the leads can be threaded onto your rope & secured by either crimping or lazy splicing.  We recommend 3 weights per rope.

What length rope should I buy?

Generally we recommend starting with a minimum of 20m of rope. If you’re fishing around Garden Island & Rottnest, then either 20 or 25m of rope will be enough. Off Mandurah you’ll need longer ropes as the water is deeper. As a general rule, you need water depth plus a third.  If you’re in an open area & there are particularly strong swells then you may need to increase your rope length to water depth plus another 50%.

Do I need to buy weighted ropes?

Fisheries WA regulations say that  “When more than 20 m of rope length (combined pot line and float rig) is attached to a pot, fishers must ensure that the top half of the pot line rope is hung vertically in the water column”.   Keep up to date with most current regs for yourself at fish.wa.gov.au

At Crackpots we recommend weighted ropes to both reduce possible whale entanglements and to keep your ropes safe from prop chop all year round.  Choose between leadcore rope spliced into your rope, or three lead core weights lazy spliced on.
