Here’s a thought – instead of buying mussels for your favourite mussel recipe, why not harvest your own, fresh and straight from the ocean?
It is ridiculously easy and ultimately satisfying – all you need is some decent mussel spat rope on which the larval mussels can settle on, and a spot to hang the rope where they can grow to a decent size.
If you’ve ever pulled up a mooring rope in the Swan River or any other relatively sheltered waters along the south and west coasts, you will know just how thick and quickly mussels can grow on anything suspended in the water.
